I disagree.. With some minor adjustments. If he went with the 612C they are a good sounding utility cab providing you get them up off the floor a bit IMHO.. My 604-8G's sound quite nice in them... YMMV of course. He is going more for aesthetics IMO by using the baffle of the 612. If he uses the baffle of the 612C his drivers should fit easily, as do mine.

Ok here are the brace measurements..
Side Braces: 30" x2-3/4" x 1" thick all braces measure 1" thickness. Three quarter stock is too skinny.
Back Brace : 33"x 2-3/4" x 1"
Front to Back: 17" x 2-3/4" x 1"
Port measures 7-3/4" x 3"
The bevel goes to 3/8" and not the 1/8" I previously posted. And 1/2" from opening on the face of baffle to the cut.
Hope this helps you.

Re: First post: Questions regarding ALTEC 612 enclosure - DI
Thanks man ...
I will put those measurements into the DIY sketch I made and find out the angle on the bevel.
Then we will have a complete drawing of 612C cab on the forum - the best solution for a duplex 604 in that utility cab size. - will also place the speaker opening in optimal position like on the 612C cab.
I?ve thought a lot of my posts on this forum - me being a NEBWIE and all...
This being the conclusion : I?m a sucker for aesthetics... as mentioned in a much more discreetly way previously today...
Anyway : earlier today I was in the progress of making up my mind of making an OB. , but found an old thread where it was a discussion around exactly the same OB I was planning on using.... SO...
I just want to ask what parameters I have to take into account of making a stonehenge enclosure...
I know I?m back and forth on this ...

Re: First post: Questions regarding ALTEC 612 enclosure - DI
As I mentioned early on, I'm quite interested in this as well.
I had checked with GPA a couple months ago about the 9.0 CF tuned to 45.5 Hz or the 6.0 CF tuned to 53 Hz, and Bill told me that yes, the bigger cabinet plays a bit lower, but in his mind it wasn't worth the extra size the cabinets take up. I decided that I would try the 6 CF cabs and if I wasn't happy with the low end, I'd throw a sub in there.
Re: First post: Questions regarding ALTEC 612 enclosure - DI
throw a sub in regardless. your high price mids will thank you
Re: First post: Questions regarding ALTEC 612 enclosure - DI
If you have to put the speakers on stands to place the drivers at ear level anyway, wouldn't it make sense to incorporate the stand into the volume of the enclosure? It should be easy to build a 9 cu ft box that looks like a stock 612 on a 12" stand.
In other words, if you were going to build a Cobra kit car, would you build it exactly like Carol Shelby built his original, or would you incorporate modern drive train and suspension technology? Would you run it on bias ply 15" tires or 17" radials?
Re: First post: Questions regarding ALTEC 612 enclosure - DI
looks familiar - as you know I have a pair of 612B (DIY) orientated at the iconic enclosures but with a different (smaller) ventilation and same as iconic without any frames for stabilization etc. inside. only a little piece of wool (please look at the vitavox images - they didn't they use not that much damping material in the past ...) . also they are a little bit cocked from the ground. inside a pair of GPA 604HII (wondering about the new GPA 604E II) and jabo xovers. sound great and just quitted my vitavox CN191 plans (sold S2 and Cn157), because in my ears the 612B & 604 match sounds even better. btw (although I didn't measure it) sometimes the causal connection of cubic-inch and bass seems to be a tale - I also have an unequal couple of rare vitiavox bitone - and even they are 'small' however their bass is amazing ... success with your plans.

Here is a drawing of the 612 C enclosure with correct dimensions on all three braces:

Here is a drawing of the speaker opening with correct angle and dimension on the bevel and opening:

Here is a 3-D view of the 612 C cabinet: look especially on the linear dimension between edge of front and where the front panel is placed.

I was told the exact same thing :)
Hmm.. difference in height of the placement of the speaker element in a 612C and the 612 DIY I?ve posted previously is not that much.
If I use damping feets or something else I will get roughly the same height.
The red dimension is the total height if placing something underneath the DIY cabinet.
